A doctor was shot by police after driving erratically around in a forklift before asking cops to kill him in California.

The extraordinary confrontation was all caught on bodycam by cops in the central California town of Denair.

The man, later identified as 79-year-old Doctor Seo Myong Yang, is seen driving around in the forklift as officers from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department demand he stop.

Officers then fired 15 shots at the vehicle.

Incredibly Yang survived with just a shot to the leg during the confrontation.

He now faces assault charges in Stanislaus Superior Court.

The unsettling episode began after police received reports of Yang allegedly blocking the road and yelling profanities, refusing to allow other cars to pass by.

Police went to the scene but Yang refused to speak with them, however his wife said that she would seek mental health counseling for him later in the week.

But just over half an hour later deputies were back on the scene as Yang appeared to become even more erratic.

He crashed the forklift through a fence and towards a deputy leading to the officer firing his weapon.

At one point he even asked deputies to kill him.

‘Deputies tried to engage him in conversation and negotiation, but he refused to cooperate or comply with instructions they were giving,’ Sgt. Luke Schwartz said.

‘They even utilized a tactical retreat as a means of avoiding further violent altercation.

‘Yang drove at a citizen and deputies with reckless disregard,’ Schwartz said.

The Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office is to now determine whether the shooting was justified.

The deputies involved in the shooting are Jonathan Buck, a four-year veteran of the department and Michael Wilson, who has been with the department for about three years. Wilson was the deputy that fired the shots, Schwartz said.

Although it is not clear what led to Yang’s outburst, it has been revealed that Yang is a both a doctor and qualified surgeon with a valid license that expires next October.
