Prince Harry can be seen arriving at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday, as he heads to London to attend the unveiling of a new statue of his mother next week.

Harry is seen approaching the the airport in a black Cadillac SUV, and his arrival coincided with a car chase that took place on its south field, and shut down two runways.

Airport officials reported that a driver had crashed through the fence near LAX’s FedEx cargo facility, and that both southbound runways were shut down as a result. One has since reopened, and the airport’s northbound runways were unaffected.

Harry is due to appear alongside his brother, Prince William, next Thursday at the unveiling ceremony of a statue of his mother Diana, the princess of Wales, in the gardens at Kensington Palace.

The princes will walk together to unveil the statue, which they commissioned to mark what would have been their mother’s 60th birthday before giving their individual speeches.

It will be the first time the pair reunite since Prince Philip’s funeral in April.

The once-close brothers, who studied together at Britain’s elite Eton school, and both served in the military, have become distant since Harry’s marriage to Meghan and the couple’s move to California.

They will preside over a significantly reduced gathering featuring just a handful of guests – the estranged princes themselves and Spencer relatives.

Up until this week they had been planning to welcome more than 100 of their mother’s friends, former staff and supporters. But Covid rules have pressed them into a rethink.

Guests have been told that next Thursday’s large ceremony has been scrapped and that a new date will be fixed for September.

It is a bitter disappointment for many in Diana’s circle who had hoped their presence would help bring about a reconciliation between William and his brother. They have been barely on speaking terms since Harry and Meghan quit royal life for California. Whether this makes a rapprochement that much easier remains to be seen.

The pair have privately told friends that they will do their utmost to ensure their differences do not distract from what they hope will be a moving celebration to recognise their mother’s ‘positive impact’.

Kate Middleton is set to help Prince William and Prince Harry put on a united front when they meet at the unveiling, reports say.

The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly agreed to attend the ceremony at Kensington Palace next Thursday.

An insider said the 39-year-old had seen the project since the beginning and would want to be there to support her husband.

It comes after it was claimed Kate and William did not have a sit-down conversation with Harry after Prince Philip‘s funeral because they feared details would be leaked.

Royal historian Robert Lacey said the chat did not happened because the Cambridges were worried their comments would be given to the US press.
