Multiple people have been injured after a truck’s concrete pumper reportedly exploded at a construction site. 

Emergency services were called to Bourke Street in Melbourne‘s CBD just after 8:50am on Thursday, after a triple zero call reported the explosion. 

Four people are believed to have been injured in the shocking workplace incident, who were treated by Ambulance Victoria at the scene.

‘It is believed the pump line of a concrete truck blew out, injuring four workers,’ a Victoria Police spokesman said. 

Tradesmen from the site were seen congregating outside the L.U Simons Builders site office on Bourke Street, as paramedics arrived on the site.  

‘Paramedics treated a man believed to be in aged in his 30s and one man believed to be aged in his 20s for upper body injuries’, Ambulance Victoria said in a statement.  

‘They were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition. 

‘Paramedics treated two other men, both believed to be aged in their 30s, also for upper body injuries.

‘They were taken to The Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.’

‘Firefighters investigated the concrete truck for any further danger, and the incident was brought under control within seven minutes,’ Fire Rescue Victoria said. 

Traffic has been disrupted for motorists and tram passengers along Bourke Street near Spring Street. 

Route 86 and 96 trams were disrupted by the explosion and have been diverted. 

WorkSafe has been notified and is currently investigating. 

‘WorkSafe is making inquiries’, a spokesperson said.
