Roddy Ricch Gets Backlash After New Album Undersells Expectations

0

Roddy Ricch is facing criticism after his latest album’s sales projections were announced, revealing his new LP significantly undersold.

Roddy released his sophomore album Live Life Fast on Dec. 17, an already questionable move considering most of the major music industry shuts down from mid-December to mid-January. On Thursday (Dec. 23), HitsDailyDouble released the forecasted numbers for the Compton, Calif. rhymer’s latest offering and the album is set to move around 64,000 equivalent album sales in its first week. It is projected to land at the No. 4 spot when the Billboard 200 is officially released next week. In contrast, Roddy’s debuted album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart when it was released in December of 2019, earning 101,000 EAU in week one.

People on social media were vocal about the apparent subpar numbers. Some people were critical of the album’s quality. “Waiting 2 years in between albums then dropping some hot garbage will usually result in this,” one person tweeted.

“This is what happens when you peak too fast He got 2 #1 singles, a Grammy and a diamond record within a year now he can’t even hit 100k on an album,” another person posted.

Others were not as quick to blame “The Box” rapper. “I’m not shaming Roddy Ricch for this,” someone else posted. “The album was only supported by 1 lead single and cryptic Instagram posts. I didn’t like the album, but I also don’t see this as evidence of a “fall off”. The potential is still there, he’s doing fine.”

Roddy Ricch’s latest album features guest appearances from Future, Lil Baby, Gunna, 21 Savage, Kodak Black and more. It was spearheaded by the lone single “Late at Night,” which was released all the way back in June.
