Former President Donald Trump left GOP Rep. Nicole Malliotakis ‘visibly shaken’ after he berated her during a fundraising dinner Monday night for joining the Democrats in approving the infrastructure bill.
On Tuesday, Trump also went after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, calling him an ‘old crow,’ for supporting the bill earlier this year when it passed the Senate.
On Monday, Trump was speaking in Tampa at a National Republican Congressional Committee fundraising dinner when he went after the 13 House Republicans, including Malliotakis, the New York Post reported.
The Staten Island congresswoman voted with Democrats on Friday night to pass President Joe Biden‘s bipartisan infrastructure bill.
Former President Donald Trump reportedly went after the 13 House Republicans who voted Friday night for the bipartisan infrastructure bill, giving President Joe Biden a significant win
The New York Post reported that GOP Rep. Nicole Malliotakis was left ‘visibly shaken’ at the NRCC dinner after Trump went after the 13 Republicans, which included her, who voted with Democrats for the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill
Trump has long encouraged fellow Republicans not to give Biden any congressional wins.
In the Senate, however, 19 Republicans crossed the aisle in August to vote for the bill, which includes hard infrastructure projects like roads, bridges and broadband.
On Tuesday, Trump aimed his ire at McConnell, who voted for the bill, in a statement.
‘Why is it that Old Crow Mitch McConnell voted for a terrible Democrat Socialist Infrastructure Plan, and induced others in his Party to do likewise, when he was incapable of getting a great Infrastructure Plan wanting to be put forward by me and the Republican Party?’ Trump said in botched prose.
‘He continuously said he couldn’t get it passed, just like I had to go around him to get the very popular Southern Border Wall built (which caused great delay—but could now be completed in one month by Biden),’ Trump continued. ‘All of the Infrastructure money, $2 Trillion, would have gone into real Infrastructure (roads, bridges, tunnels, airports, etc).’
Trump called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell an ‘old crow’ in a statement Tuesday raging against his support for the bipartisan infrastructure bill that passed the Senate in August, but the House Friday night
Despite the infrastructure bill already being passed in the Senate, giving McConnell little room to stall it, Trump also blamed the body’s top Republican for Democrats coming to an agreement.
‘Also, why did Mitch give the Democrats a two-month hiatus, just long enough for them to figure it all out, when they were completely ready to fold?’ Trump asked.
At the Tampa dinner, the New York Times also reported that Trump took credit for Virginia Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin’s win last week.
Trump boasted that Youngkin ‘probably would have lost big without him.’
‘And Glenn probably know this,’ Trump said.
Youngkin, while being endorsed by Trump and speaking with him by phone, kept the former president at an arm’s distance in the race, never having him travel to Virginia for a campaign event.
Last year, Virginia went to for Biden over Trump by 10 points.
